Though most frequently thought of as a landscape painter, Carol Beesley has never limited herself to a single subject at any time. Parallel artistic explorations have included Religious icons, vintage postcards, Oaxacan folk art, kitty kitsch, photography, Mexican oilcloth, bad ceramics, and always, always her constant companions, her cats. Many of these “projects” were pursued in colored pencil, a medium Carol had first worked with in graduate school. She enjoyed the ability it gave her to work quietly in her own space at her own pace, away from the social scene of the faculty studios at OU where she pursued her “serious” painting. As far as we know, this is the first time “Carol’s Cats” have been shown in public.
