Artist Bio:
Bridget Trowbridge is a mixed media artist based in Edmond, Oklahoma. Working in abstract expressionism, her art is a personal way of processing life and emotion. She draws inspiration from the energy of artists like Basquiat, Cy Twombly, and Francis Bacon.
Self-taught and exhibiting since 2021, Bridget has shown her work in several Oklahoma galleries and businesses, including Forma, Edmond Fine Arts Gallery, and The Collective. Her process blends layers, texture, and movement to create pieces that feel both spontaneous and deeply personal.
For Bridget, making art is about the process, using color and mark-making to evoke emotion and connection
Artist Statement:
My work is a visual record of my life. I create mixed media pieces using oil pastels, charcoal, chalk, graphite, and paint on wood panels and canvas. The subjects shift between pop culture, Oklahoma places, florals, and figures inspired by experiences that have shaped my life.
Art is how I stay balanced. It’s a conversation with myself that helps me make sense of experiences that are difficult to navigate. I’m drawn to imperfection because I believe the pursuit of perfection often comes from fear. Each piece is an act of letting go and allowing the art to say what it needs to say and take me where it wants to go. I try to preserve the process of the work, showing the layers, mistakes, and changes made along the way. Our identities are shaped by our past selves, and I find the imperfect parts and the history of a person’s life the most interesting thing of all, and I hope to reflect that in my work.
My influences include Egon Schiele, Vincent van Gogh, Francis Bacon, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Joan Mitchell, and Cy Twombly. Like them, I work from emotion more than structure. My goal for the work is to resonate with people and remind them of their own emotional and beautiful life experiences.
