The exhibition is curated by Sherri Irvin. Irvin is the Associate Dean of the Graduate College, Presidential Research Professor of Philosophy and Women's and Gender Studies who received her Ph.D. from Princeton. Irvin specializes on Aesthetics and Philosophy of Art and Philosophy of Race.
Your Mission ... is presented by the OU Humanities Forum and Norman Arts Council.
An opening reception takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, September 21 with a closing reception set for the following Friday, October 5, also from 6 to 9 p.m.
Patrons can also visit the gallery between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Tuesday, September 25 through Friday, October 5, 2018.
The exhibition and receptions are free and open to all to attend.
Participating artist Nicholas Galanin (Tlingit/Unangax̂) will also give an artist talk at 7 p.m. Thursday, September 20 in the Gaylord Ethics and Excellence in Journalism Foundation Auditorium (room 1140 of the Gaylord College of Journalism) on Lindsey St. at the South Oval. The talk is co-sponsored by OU Center for Social Justice.
Nicholas Galanin (Tlingit/Unangax̂), Alaska-based artist whose work has been widely exhibited and collected internationally. He explores Indigenous invisibility, the appropriation of Indigenous aesthetics, and the persistent effects of colonial violence.
